PROJECTS WE ARE PROUD OF
FRIENDLY PEOPLE, HELPFUL SOLUTIONS
I have been involved as a hobbyist and professional in the pet industry for over 25 years. Over that time, I have accumulated much experience with aquatic life support, custom installations, marine and freshwater organisms, aquaculture and aquatic system engineering. Along with Aqua Imports, I also collaborate with Teens4Oceans, a non-profit youth led organization promoting stewardship of our oceans and helped found View Into the Blue, a technology company providing custom data collection equipment and live submersible video streaming.
I started keeping aquariums, reptiles and amphibians at a very young age. My father and older brother kept aquariums and as soon as I was old enough I had an aquarium, too. Like a lot of hobbyists, one aquarium turned to multiple aquariums. I was always fascinated by reptiles and amphibians, and would spend my summer days catching and keeping an assortment of both. My interest in animals and their husbandry led me to attain a Biology degree the University of Colorado, where I worked in a lab studying the behavior of venomous snakes. When I was a senior in college, a high school friend and I started Aqua Imports in our garage. We started by doing just aquarium maintenance and this has evolved to include a retail store that has been serving Boulder for over 25 years. My two sons have also joined the Aqua Imports team during the summers in this original, local, small business.
I have been an aquatic enthusiast for about eight years now. I first started off with a 30 gallon freshwater aquarium. Once I filled it, my interests evolved into saltwater and I bought a 75 gallon reef aquarium. This reef began thriving to the point that I began propagating corals and trading amongst other local people in the hobby. I collect hard to find species of all different types. Currently, this aquarium has been upgraded to 150 gallons and is so full I’ll need to upgrade again soon. I love the ocean and am very passionate about preserving the reefs around the world. My other hobbies include skateboarding, gardening, cooking, and camping.
Kevin has been a fish lover all of his life. His first tank was a 20 gallon freshwater kit that he runs to this very day. At the age of 14, he started his first saltwater tank, a 14 gallon BioCube which has been running ever since, with many upgrades and modifications along the way. The BioCube in its current form, houses a beastly mantis shrimp and several varieties of coral. His other tanks include three small 5.5 gallon aquariums, inhabited by spawning Killifish species. When he isn’t at work, Kevin enjoys Live Action Role Playing (LARPing) and SCUBA diving.
I was 3 years old when my father took me to a pond near my house to catch frogs. A year later, I was collecting frogs, turtles, snakes and fish. At this point I was hooked. Since then, I’ve kept over 100 different species of reptiles and amphibians as well as many different aquariums and earned a bachelor’s degree from CU in biology. I am one of the few people who actually appreciate freshwater aquariums more than saltwater. These hobbies have led me to be involved in the aquarium and reptile industry for over 30 years. My hobbies include: fishing, rattlesnakes, shooting pool, and poker. Come on by the store and let’s talk fish.
